» This Country stars tackle charity game

IT’S the kind of event you’d expect Kurtan from This Country to not bother with. Thankfully, it was Charlie Cooper, who plays Lee ‘Kurtan’ Mucklowe in the Bafta-winning comedy show set in a fictional Cotswolds town, who took to the field of play on Sunday.

Charlie was joined by fellow stars from the BBC Three mockumentary for a charity match against Cirencester Town Veterans XI to raise money for the town’s Foodbank.

Emmerdale star James Moore, who plays Ryan Stocks in the ITV soap, as well as Laurence Llewelyn-bowen were also in the crowd.

Charlie’s sister, Daisy May, who cowrites and stars as Kurtan’s cousin Kerry in This Country, provided commentary.

Earlier this year, she donated the money she would have spent on a dress for the BAFTAS to Cirencester Foodbank.

Daisy wore a dress made out of bin bags to the glittering red carpet event in May.

After the game at Cirencester Town’s Corinium stadium was drawn at full time, the This Country (and friends) XI won on penalties.

There was also a minute’s applause for Michael Sleggs, who starred as ‘Slugs’ in the hit BBC comedy who died earlier this month.

Michael, from Cirencester, died aged 33 was a long-time friend of Charlie

and Daisy May.

Charlie and Daisy May Cooper play cousins Kerry and Lee ‘Kurtan’ Mucklowe in the mockumentary that began in 2017.

Set in a rural community in the Cotswolds, the programme is about the day-to-day challenges young people face in the countryside and is told through the lives of the two cousins and their friends and family.

Although Daisy revealed the BBC Three show is based on Cirencester, it is filmed in and around Northleach.
