Vintage weekend mark anniversary of musician’s big concert

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Vintage and Country Extravaganza is widely regarded as one of the biggest and best steam, vintage and countryside events in the UK.
And thousands of people are expected to descend on Cirencester this weekend for the event.
This year’s extravaganza starts tomorrow Friday, August 2 and tuns to Sunday, August 4.
It is held on South Cerney Airfield and will feature a number of classic cars including more than 70 American cars, 335 motorcycles and scooters, 80 bicycles from 1903-1980 and many more.
What’s more, this year’s event will also mark the 75th anniversary of American Big Band era musician major Glenn Miller’s performance in Cirencester.
The star performed in the town in August 1944 shortly before his disappearence.
Some of the highlights include vintage displays, parades and demonstrations, a vintage fun fair, countryside and animal arenas, trade stands and music and dance which will start from 10.30am and continue right on until 4pm.
The event is organised by the Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club and is one of the largest events of its kind run entirely by volunteers.
Gates for the event open at 10am and tickets start from £3.20.

The Brewery Quarter’s Summer Jam returns this weekend.
As well as a wide selection of music being performed, the event brinfgs a selection of outdoor bars from the venues within the centre. There will also be an arts and craft market.
