Everything’s coming up rosés

It’s the drink of the season. Whatever your budget, here’s our guide to the corkers

Gloucestershire Echo - - CASHING IN -

NICOLETA ORGANIC GRENACHE ROSÉ

(ABV 12.5%), £4.99, Lidl WITH its bright colour we expected a strong taste. But we struggled to pick up any flavour, except sweetness, and it did leave a bit of an aftertaste. ■ Verdict: It was too sweet for us. 5/10

TASTE THE DIFFERENCE ENGLISH DRY ROSÉ (ABV 11%), £11, Sainsbury’s

CRISP, fresh and perfect for drinking al fresco. Had an appealing fruity smell and a lovely strawberry flavour with a hint of elderflower. The bottle emptied fast.

■ Verdict: Perfect balance of flavours. 10/10

SOMOS CANTINA 34 (ABV 11.5%), £5.50, Co-op

WITH a funky label and a hint of blush, it had a fresh young vibe and didn’t disappoint. Fruity and refreshing with a crisp, juicy apple taste. ■ Verdict: Frisky little number. 9/10

QUISCO MALBEC ROSÉ (ABV 12%), £6.99, Aldi

A DEEP pink colour, it had the most wonderful bouquet of lychees and ripening fruit. An unusually exotic and luscious taste, it transported us to a dreamy, faraway place. ■ Verdict: Heavenly. 10/10

EXTRA SPECIAL PINOT GRIGIO ROSÉ (ABV 12%), £6, Asda

DELICATE pink with a fruity bouquet but there was a slightly bitter backdrop.

A bit like how a peach tastes when you get to the stone. ■ Verdict: Needs refining. 6/10

FINEST MALBEC ROSÉ (ABV 13%), £7.50, Tesco

THE bouquet reminded us of lazy summer days and it had depth with a fruity flavour and stand-out salmon pink colour

– heady and delicious. ■ Verdict: Potent. 9/10
