Nar­raway links up with Ryan at Dragons

» FOR­MER Glouces­ter star Luke Nar­raway has been re­united with Dean Ryan at the Dragons.

The for­mer Eng­land in­ter­na­tional has been ap­pointed head coach of the re­gion’s Celtic Cup side for the de­vel­op­ment com­pe­ti­tion.

Nar­raway played un­der for­mer Glouces­ter head coach Ryan for a large part of his time at King­sholm be­tween 2003 and 2012, help­ing them twice fin­ish top of the Premier­ship and win the Eu­ro­pean Chal­lenge Cup dur­ing a suc­cess­ful pe­riod.

He joins the Dragons from Bordeaux, where he worked un­der new Glouces­ter skills coach Rory Teague as for­wards coach, hav­ing started his coach­ing ca­reer to­wards the end of his play­ing days at Coven­try.

Nar­raway will now head up the Dragons’ de­vel­op­ment side, who kick off their cam­paign away to Con­nacht Ea­gles in late Au­gust.

They also face home games against Mun­ster, Scar­lets, Ul­ster and Ospreys.

Also ap­pointed to the coach­ing team of the Celtic Cup side is Geraint Lewis, who won 16 caps for Wales be­tween 1998 and 2001.

“Luke is a per­son I know re­ally well, hav­ing played for me dur­ing our time to­gether at Glouces­ter, and he is a tal­ented young coach who has spent the last few years with Bordeaux,” said Ryan, who joined the Dragons as direc­tor of rugby ear­lier this sum­mer.

“He now has an op­por­tu­nity for work with our Un­der-23s and we’re de­lighted that Geraint, who has huge knowl­edge of the tal­ent pool in the re­gion, is also work­ing with us, with the full sup­port of the WRU.”
