In-demand Mahon to staick with Saracens

Gloucestershire Echo - - FOOTBALL -

» KAI Mahon’s performances for Cheltenham Saracens last season alerted the attentions of a host of higher level clubs.

But the left winger has opted to remain at Petersfield Park for at least another year before trying to make a step up the footballing ladder.

Mahon, 22, has trained with other more senior sides in the county this pre-season, but he has committed himself to Hellenic League Division One West side Saracens, who finished as runners-up behind Easington Sports in 2018/19.

“I attended a couple of training sessions for other teams and trials, but decided my best option was to play another season for Saracens and think about next season when it comes to it,” Mahon said.

“With the squad we have at the moment and the management of the team I feel confident we can challenge for promotion.”

Saracens are managed by Ryan Betteridge and Stuart Mitchinson.

Mahon has previously played for Andoversford, Bishop’s Cleeve Reserves, Slimbridge and Evesham United Under-18s. In youth football, he was with Lakeside and Saracens.

Outside football, he works part-time in a popular Cheltenham nightclub.

Saracens begin the 2019/20 season at home to Tytherington Rocks on Saturday before visiting Newport Pagnell Town in the FA Cup extra preliminary round a week later.
