Doyle-hayes signs up
» MIDFIELDER Jake Doyle-hayes was on the bench at Leyton Orient last Saturday after signing for Cheltenham Town on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old spent time in League Two with Cambridge United last season, playing in their 2-0 defeat at the Jonny-rocks Stadium in February.
He made four starts and two substitute appearances for the U’s and Robins boss Michael Duff said: “We identified Jake in December last year and we showed our interest in January.
“There were a few factors: we couldn’t guarantee him football, we were in the bottom two at the time and we weren’t sure if it was right for him or us.
“He ended up going out to Cambridge and did well.
“He’s highly regarded at Aston Villa and he’s been in and around their first team squad as the 19th or 20th man for the last 12 months so we think we have a very good footballer with good energy.
“We have known about him for a long time and we have shown interest before, so we are delighted to get it over the line.”
Republic of Ireland Under-19 international Doyle-hayes has made three EFL Cup starts for Villa, including a 4-1 home win over Wigan Athletic in August 2017.
