Mum’s plea for speed reduction after crash took life of husband

A MUM-OF-TWO devastated by an crash on a county road has called for action to be taken.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, says a dangerous bend is causing her much concern.

Her children’s father was killed in a road traffic accident and she believes there could be another fatality if nothing is done about what is locally known as the Seven Bends Road to Tewkesbury.

She said she has seen the aftermath of eight crashes on the B4079 road since last May.

She has pleaded with Gloucestershire Highways to reduce the speed limit on the dangerous stretch.

“My children’s father died on the Gloucestershire roads,” she said.

“I still feel anxious about the roads and I have experienced the ongoing pain a death on the road can cause even years later.

“I personally think that bend is going to cause more fatalities.”

The road runs between Aston Cross and the A435.

Motorists are currently bound by the national speed limit, but the woman has suggested it could be reduced to 40mph to reduce the risk of future accidents.

Craig Freeman, local highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said the issues on the road are being investigated and data was being collected.

“We are aware of the recent accidents on the B4079 Seven Bends road and are collecting data, including traffic counts and a speed survey, to find out whether there is a pattern to these incidents,” he said.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation going forward and we are in touch with the local parish council and will keep them informed of our progress.

“We will make any changes we consider necessary once our investigation is complete.”
