Shelley and Thompson’s all-round show

AARON Shelley and skipper Jon Thompson shared an unbroken stand of 198 to guide Down Hatherley to a ten-wicket home victory over Hatherley & Reddings III in Division Seven of the Greene King IPA Gloucester­shire County League.

Shelly reached 100 and Thompson 75 after the pair had earlier captured 3-44 and 2-23, respective­ly, to restrict their visitors to 197-8, Tom Coote top scoring on 85.

Whitminste­r’s lead was trimmed to a point following an eight-wicket setback at Tormarton with nearest rivals Ruardean Hill also slipping up, by two wickets at home to Westbury-on-severn II.

Mike Provis was unbeaten on 118 for Division One leaders Apperley who trumped Redmarley by 28 runs, and Thornbury II defeated their Cheltenham counterpar­ts by 57 runs to remain just behind in second.

Opener Froy Litherland compiled 143 off 126 balls (21 fours, three sixes) for Charlton Kings to set up a 162-run home hammering of Lydney while Kingsholm defeated Gloucester AIW Sports by 95 runs and Poulton overcame Chipping Sodbury by five wickets.

Division Two leaders Cam were six-wicket home victors against Hatherley & Reddings II, but second-placed Westbury-on-severn slipped up by seven wickets at home to Aston Ingham for whom Jon Waspe claimed 6-26.

Jack Isher finished with 5-7 from four as Oldlands were bowled out for 57 and a 109run reverse at Woodmancot­e Saints and Cinderford St John overcame Ullenwood Bharat by eight wickets.

Openers Jay Westwood (91) and George Bailey (86) saw Hawkesbury Upton to a tenwicket success at Chipping Sodbury II in Division Three, chasing down a target of 191 with ease while leaders Langford were comfortabl­e five-wicket home victors over Woodpecker­s.

Skipper Dan Huxstep was unbeaten on 103 and Billy Curtis captured 5-33 in Frampton-on-severn’s 105-run thumping of Cranham, Frocester III crushed Tetbury by 178 runs and Rockhampto­n II were 43-run victors over Great Rissington.

Opener Andy Phillips (130) and Adam Tarrant (101) powered Division Four pacesetter­s Bourton Vale II to 356-6 at Fairford who came up 74 runs short despite 89 from Lee Clark and captain Chris Clayton’s 80.

Tommy Boorman compiled 106 for Dumbleton II to script a six-wicket home win over Birdlip & Brimpsfiel­d while Newent pulverised Dymock by 221 runs and skipper Andy Williams was unbeaten on 108 for Cheltenham Civil Service II who won by 122 runs at Lydney II.

In Division Five, skipper Craig Whiting (63) and Jacob Smith (11) put on an unbroken 89 for the tenth wicket but Haresfield Gladiators still went down by 76 runs away to Corse & Staunton II.

And in Division Six, openers Andy Cox (62) and skipper Dan Lloyd (54) set up Cricklade’s five-wicket victory away to Stroud II.
