Classic car owned by Ol’ Blue Eyes makes festival appearance

» SUNDAY will see the Rotary Club of Tewkesbury stage their Classic Vehicle Festival at Tewkesbury School Playing Fields.

The event features a spectacula­r display of more than 1,000 classic vehicles, from the dawn of the motoring era, to pre-war, post-war, American classics, custom cars, hot rods, supercars, motorbikes, those of historic and engineerin­g significan­ce to mass produced retro runabouts.

Appearing for the first time is the Zimmer Golden Spirit once owned by Frank Sinatra, one of only 1,500 built.

The car was handbuilt for the music legend and presented to him to celebrate his 68th birthday.

The car was later gifted to fellow Rat Pack member Sammy Davis Jr and upon his death was gifted to the Las Vegas Museum.

The current owner from Kemble has recently had it shipped over from the USA.

This year commemorat­es the 110th anniversar­y of the iconic French car manufactur­er ‘Bugatti’ plus, the 90th Anniversar­y of the Bugatti Owners’ Club based locally at Prescott Hillclimb.

» RETAIL guru Mary Portas is to judge the annual Painswick Artburst competitio­n.

The Queen of Shops will be presiding over more than 100 entries and deciding who takes home the prizes of up to £500.

All entries will be displayed in the St Mary’s Church Rooms throughout the festival winners will be announced on the opening day of the 10-day event on Saturday, August 17.

The festival is a celebratio­n of the collective works of Gloucester­shire residents with much of the village given over to host various open studios, talks and workshops throughout the event.

For the first time, this year, a series of masterclas­ses will take place under the tutelage of Greg Thatcher.
