Fresh bid for branding by The Range on unit
» ANOTHER planning application has been made that could see the Homebase DIY store on the edge of Cheltenham become The Range.
There are proposals to split the Homebase unit at Centrum Park, off Tewkesbury Road, into two for The Range and another retailer to move in.
Homebase has said it remains committed to its Cheltenham store and believes its landlord is merely exploring options for the site.
But the planning application sent to Cheltenham Borough Council seeks The Range branding for Unit One.
Illustrations submitted as part of the planning application show The Range signs proposed for the building.
The Range is currently based off Tewkesbury Road, half-a-mile away towards the town centre.
It is named as the applicant for the bid to put illuminated and non-illuminated branding on the store.
Recently, Homebase has said it remains committed to its Cheltenham store despite a bid to split the unit it occupies into two and bring in The Range, the Gloucestershire Echo understands.
The DIY store is believed to be in conversation with the landlords of its Tewkesbury Road site, which is owned by The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited (Royal London).
Discussions are ongoing about the Centrum Park building since Royal London submitted a planning application to Cheltenham Borough Council for the unit to be sub-divided “to accommodate The Range and another non-food retailer.”
Homebase is still working on the assumption that the application from the landlord is for them to explore their options for the site. And the Echo understands the brand remains committed to its Cheltenham store.
