» A GROUP of ex-nurses held a reunion – prompted by a picture of a group of them sitting on the steps of Cheltenham General hospital.

Gloucestershire Echo - - IN BRIEF -

The event was organised by Judith Britton, Elizabeth Read and Helen Carver – members of the Nursing Set of 1967 to 1970.

After studying an image from 1970 they set about the task of contacting as many people as possible.

Members of the group met at The Greenway Hotel where they enjoyed a three-course dinner after they tried to recreate the original image.

Helen Carver said: “It was interesting and fun to catch up and remember our experiences as student nurses at Cheltenham General Hospital in the late 1960s and some of the pranks we got up to.

“Attitudes then were for discipline and we were compelled to conform.

“We all agreed that nurse training has changed out of recognition especially with developments since our experience as student nurses.”
