Injury rules Howell out for rest of season
» BENNY Howell will miss the rest of the season after scans revealed the extent of his hamstring injury.
Nottinghamshire bowling all-rounder Zak Chappell has been signed on loan to cover Howell for the rest of the T20 Blast season.
Howell, who started the Blast season with a career-best five for 18 against Glamorgan, picked up the injury batting against Surrey.
He said: “I am absolutely devastated. Not being able to be out there with the boys in their push for promotion and finals day really hurts.
“As gutted as I am, I have accepted the fact that this can happen in profession sport.
“My main focus now is recovering as quickly as I possibly can and supporting the team with the same passion as playing.”
Chappell, 22, joined Nottinghamshire from Leicestershire last summer and toured Indian with the England Lions.
He said: “I’m grateful to Gloucestershire for the opportunity and am looking forward to playing T20 cricket against players I’ve not had the opportunity to face before.
“The aim is to help the side win matches and qualify for the quarterfinals.
“It’s a young and talented squad looking to achieve something together.”
