PLANT OF THE WEEK

VERONICASTRUM VIRGINICUM ‘ALBUM’

Gloucestershire Echo - - YOUR GARDEN -

THE tall elegant spires of Veronicastrum ‘Album’ weave like white wands.

Planted in my garden beside white hydrangeas, they stand over a metre tall and yet require no support.

Happiest in a moist fertile soil either in full sunshine or partial shade, this herbaceous perennial will disappear in winter and emerge stronger in spring.

Although the flowers are unscented, it will attract bees and butterflies and is a perfect companion for ‘prairie-style’ planting or in a cottage garden scheme.
