Delight as hard-work triumphs

BALCARRAS School in Charlton Kings, Cheltenham, was a happy place to be as it achieved its best results since its sixth form opened in 1998.

Ninety-one per cent of the 185 pupils taking A-levels got A* to C grades, 70 per cent got A* to B and 37 per cent achieved A* to A.

It had headteacher Dominic Burke purring with delight today.

He said: “It’s the best ever in terms of A* to B and A* to C. We’re absolutely delighted.

“The students have done really well.

“It was such a great atmosphere in the common room - lots of kids absolutely delighted, going off to their chosen universities.

“The students have worked ever so hard. They’ve been such a committed group, wonderfully supported by their teachers.

“The quality of teaching is crucial to everything.”
