We need to check our trees and drains often

Gloucestershire Echo - - NEWS - David Soo Cheltenham

✒ NOT long ago a lady mentioned in your letters section that many drains in Cheltenham were blocked with weeds growing out, just past Pittville Gates heading towards Pittville roundabout.

On the left hand side is Badhams pharmacy and there is a tree and drain.

Every time we have heavy rain, the blocked drain has made a puddle so large that it covered one section of the pavement and people had to walk around it.

In the end I got a shovel, cleared the dirt and unblocked the grille in the cover to drain most of the water.

Regarding the tree, often I have phoned the council to trim the side of it as it is a danger for cyclists riding in the dark.

If what I hear is right, that the council wants to plant more trees, can we get experienced people to run these departments like we did many many years ago, who checked them regularly, and who will be prepared for the many new trees?
