BIRDLIP AND BRIMPSFIELD WI

Gloucestershire Echo - - NOSTALGIA - Andrea Johnson

The speakers available through the WI covers a diverse range of topics.

At our July meeting we had an informative talk by author Glenn Slater. Having been a Chartered Surveyor for many years he writes crime thriller adventure stories using the pseudonym Simon Fairfax.

He regaled us with a colourful account of his research.

This included visiting the places he writes about; firing the weapons and rehearsing the fight sequences, to ensure that his novels are plausible.

We’re not sure that many of us will be following in his footsteps but it was an enjoyable meeting and made us aware of the meticulous planning and preparation required to produce a book worthy of publication.

Other activities included a group walk around Birdlip on one of the hottest days of the year.

Fortunately, most of the walk was in the partial shade of trees.

Films viewed by the cinema group included Yesterday and Sometimes Always Never.

In September our group will be travelling on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire (Steam & Diesel) Railway from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway.

Next meeting is onwednesday, September 4.
