CHELTENHAM Town defender Grant Horton has joined Bromsgrove Sporting on a work experience loan.

The second year scholar spent time with Worcester City last season and he was involved with the first team during the pre-season schedule.

He was also on the bench for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup first round tie at Bristol Rovers, which the Robins lost 3-0, along with youth team colleague Tom Chamberlain and academy graduate Archie Brennan.

Horton has been at Cheltenham since the age of nine, being converted from a striker to a lightning-quick centre-half in that time.

He was initially spotted by a scout while playing in a cup final at Hereford’s Edgar Street.

Horton was on the bench as Bromsgrove drew 2-2 at Coalville Town in the Southern League Premier Division Central on Saturday with two last-gasp goals sealing a point.

They have started their season with a 1-1 home draw with Biggleswade Town followed by a 3-1 victory at Tamworth, with ex-robins loanee Shaq Mcdonald among the scorers.

Cheltenham were due to visit Bromsgrove for a pre-season friendly at the end of July, but it was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
