Former workshop to become martial arts space
RETAIL space in a town is to be turned into a martial arts studio, after the plans were given the green light.
A planning application, submitted to Cotswold District Council, concerns the site at Unit 3a, The Woolmarket, Cirencester.
The building in the small courtyard of shops, professional services and a cafe used to be a dressmakers workshop.
A report to the council states permission was granted in 2010 for it to be turned into a ladies gym, however those plans never came to fruition and the area was used for retail storage.
A year ago, planners gave the go-ahead for the unit to become a Thai massage treatment studio. That project also stalled, the report adds.
“Although the premises have not been in active use for some time, their current lawful use is as ancillary retail storage and the proposed change of use is therefore necessary to facilitate use of the premises as a new martial arts studio,” it says.
One full-time member of staff will be employed at the business, while selfemployed workers will be recruited when required.
The studio will be open between 6am and 9pm Monday to Saturday.
