David was sur­prised to find that de­spite the day­time tem­per­a­ture ris­ing to 31.6°C or 90°F on July 25, in line with some of the hottest days recorded in the coun­try, the July tem­per­a­tures were not oth­er­wise re­mark­able ex­cept that the night av­er­age tem­per­a­ture was only 10.3°C. That was the low­est he had seen in the last decade for July.

Ra­di­a­tion and rain­fall record­ings were noth­ing but av­er­age, the to­tal rain was 54 mm.

The church ser­vice at St Mary Mag­da­lene, Elmstone Hardwicke on Sun­day, Au­gust 25 at 10.45am, will be Holy Com­mu­nion.

The next af­ter­noon whist drive will be held on Tues­day, Septem­ber 3 in the vil­lage hall at 2pm. En­trance, raf­fle, re­fresh­ments and prizes only £1. Come along and en­joy a friendly game of cards.

Ev­ery Thurs­day at 10.30 am, the singing group Go Vo­cal meet at the vil­lage hall. Led by Linda Corcoran, a pro­fes­sion­ally trained choir leader, they sing old & new rock and pop.

New mem­bers are wel­come, there is no need to read mu­sic and no au­di­tion to join.
