Mor­rell makes step up with Wales se­lec­tion

» Bris­tol City’s for­mer Cheltenham Town loa­nee Joe Mor­rell has re­ceived his first com­pet­i­tive se­nior call-up for Wales.

The 22-year-old mid­fielder shone for the Robins dur­ing the 2017/18 sea­son, mak­ing 38 League Two ap­pear­ances and scor­ing three goals.

Mor­rell is on loan at League One Lin­coln City and he has been listed in Ryan Giggs’ 26-man squad for the up­com­ing fix­tures against Azer­bai­jan and Be­larus.

Azer­bai­jan visit the Cardiff City Stadium on Septem­ber 6 in a Euro 2020 qual­i­fier be­fore Wales host Be­larus in a friendly three days later.

Mor­rell, who has made one Cham­pi­onship ap­pear­ance for his par­ent club as a sub­sti­tute, is one of three un­capped play­ers in the squad.

Cen­tral de­fender Joe Rodon, who ap­peared on loan for Cheltenham from Swansea City dur­ing the sec­ond half of 2017/18, is also in­cluded.
