National title victory for Suffolk Square club
» CHELTENHAM Bowling Club’s Joan Surman, Penny Callaghan, Lee Williamson and Nathan Kitchen won the National Mixed Fours Competition at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa last Saturday.
They defeated Lincolnshire’s Ruby Hill, Chelsea Tomlin, Ashley Caress and Martin Spencer in the final. The Cheltenham BC bowlers raced into a 12-1 lead and never looked back, as they secured a 23-15 victory.
Earlier in the day, the Gloucestershire quartet defeated Sussex’s Rachel Mackriell, Lorraine Kuhler, Paul Gandey and Carl Blinco 25-8 in the semi-final.
This is the third National title captured by the Suffolk Square club in recent years; Lee Williamson winning the National Singles Championship in 2014 and his son Finley winning the Junior Sutton Winson Plate in 2017.
» THROUGHOUT the summer season, the clubs in Gloucestershire enter three rinks of men into the County Challenge Cup.
The semi-finals saw the finalists in the four county sections play for a place in the final and Gloucester City lost 68-50 to Olveston (Bristol) and Victory Park (Stroud) beat Tewkesbury (Cheltenham) 61-53.
Victory Park lost to Olveston 57-33 in the final.
» A MIXED team from Gloucester County Bowls Association played a match against GB Britton BC in Bristol in celebration of their centenary.
GB Britton won the match by 10 shots.
