Na­tional ti­tle vic­tory for Suf­folk Square club

» CHEL­TENHAM Bowl­ing Club’s Joan Sur­man, Penny Cal­laghan, Lee Wil­liamson and Nathan Kitchen won the Na­tional Mixed Fours Com­pe­ti­tion at Vic­to­ria Park, Royal Leam­ing­ton Spa last Satur­day.

They de­feated Lin­colnshire’s Ruby Hill, Chelsea Tom­lin, Ash­ley Ca­ress and Martin Spencer in the fi­nal. The Chel­tenham BC bowlers raced into a 12-1 lead and never looked back, as they se­cured a 23-15 vic­tory.

Ear­lier in the day, the Glouces­ter­shire quar­tet de­feated Sus­sex’s Rachel Mack­riell, Lor­raine Kuh­ler, Paul Gandey and Carl Blinco 25-8 in the semi-fi­nal.

This is the third Na­tional ti­tle cap­tured by the Suf­folk Square club in re­cent years; Lee Wil­liamson win­ning the Na­tional Sin­gles Cham­pi­onship in 2014 and his son Fin­ley win­ning the Ju­nior Sut­ton Win­son Plate in 2017.

» THROUGH­OUT the sum­mer sea­son, the clubs in Glouces­ter­shire en­ter three rinks of men into the County Chal­lenge Cup.

The semi-fi­nals saw the fi­nal­ists in the four county sec­tions play for a place in the fi­nal and Glouces­ter City lost 68-50 to Olve­ston (Bris­tol) and Vic­tory Park (Stroud) beat Tewkes­bury (Chel­tenham) 61-53.

Vic­tory Park lost to Olve­ston 57-33 in the fi­nal.

» A MIXED team from Glouces­ter County Bowls As­so­ci­a­tion played a match against GB Brit­ton BC in Bris­tol in cel­e­bra­tion of their cen­te­nary.

GB Brit­ton won the match by 10 shots.
