Cheltenham bounce back with away win

Gloucestershire Echo - - FOOTBALL -

» CHELTENHAM Town Ladies shrugged off last week’s cup disappointment with an impressive 1-0 win at Buckland Athletic.

The home side looked threatening in the early stages, playing most of the football in the Cheltenham half but they were limited to break away chances or shots from distance.

The second half started much like the first half had, with Buckland starting quickly and Cheltenham being forced into defending.

After weathering a small storm, which saw Buckland win a couple of corners, Cheltenham scored the only goal of the game.

Abby Bevan broke away as Buckland had thrown bodies forward, and her cross found its way to winger Sarah King and the former Swindon youngster picked her shot perfectly, slotting the shot back across the goal and in off the post.

Buckland fought back strongly calling Alyta Norman into action in the Cheltenham goal.

Sarah Stacey also blazed the best chance of the game, over the bar from a couple of yards out but Cheltenham held out.
