Troubled Trotters job for ex-town defender
FORMER Cheltenham Town defender Keith Hill has been appointed manager of Bolton Wanderers.
The appointment was confirmed three days after Football Ventures (Whites) Limited completed a takeover of the League One club. Bolton’s future had been in doubt prior to the deal, with administrators warning of liquidation. Bottom of the table and on minus 11 points, they suffered a third successive 5-0 league defeat by Gillingham on Saturday.
Hill replaces Jimmy Phillips, who had been in caretaker charge since Phil Parkinson left on August 22.
Hill, now 50, joined Cheltenham from Rochdale in 2001, but made only two starts and three substitute appearances. He was loaned to Wrexham and left in 2002 to join Morecambe. As a manager he has enjoyed two spells at Rochdale, either side of a stint in charge of Barnsley.
