Apprentices and management trainees relishing opportunity with construction firm
» E G Carter & Co Ltd has taken on two apprentices and two trainees.
The firm is committed to attending and supporting numerous career and employment fairs across Gloucestershire.
Each year it reviews its training requirements and for the last 20 years it has averaged two apprentices and one management trainee per year. This September the firm took on two carpentry apprentices and two management trainees.
Jake Matthews and Max Tyack, both 17, will go down the management trainee route, which involves hands-on experience and learning, supported by collegebased study. Jake and Max have the same goal, to look after and manage their own sites. Jake said: “I am looking forward to starting my career in construction, I can’t wait to follow a project through from start to finish. Knowing that I will be mentored by people who have been through the same process that I’m going through motivates me to be the best I can.”
Carlo Thomas, 18, and Robin Hanman, 16, have joined as carpentry apprentices and will be working on various sites in the South West as they develop their skills. Both will embark on a threeyear college course to achieve full qualifications. Carlo said: ‘I’m really looking forward to starting on-site. My goal is to complete my apprenticeship and become a fully qualified carpenter. I’m excited to shadow carpenters and learn from their years of experience.”
