Charlton are Trophy kings
CHARLTON Kings held off Hawkesbury Upton by 46 runs at Frenchay to lift the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Trophy.
Kings, fresh from completing a thirdplace finish in Division One of the Gloucestershire County League, took charge after winning the toss by reaching 230-9 from their 40 overs.
Openers Ali Parker (40) and captain Chris Burrow (46) shared a partnership of 82 while Liam Brignull (29), Josh Trewin (31), Neal Mitchell (25) and Matt Luxton (22 not) also made their presence felt out in the middle.
Jay Westwood (3-36 from seven) and Gavin Huxford (3-44 from eight) were the pick of the attack for Hawkesbury, Division Three runners-up, who made a solid start with the bat.
Westwood and George Bailey put on 67 but Westwood was bowled for 28 by Benny Ellis who grabbed two more wickets en route to figures of 3-36 from eight as Hawkesbury began to stumble.
Bailey went for 38 and despite the efforts of Mike Colburn (35), Kings continued to turn the screw through Chris Burrow (2-16), Saurav Kamath (2-38) and Seb Jordan (2-32) to wrap up the win.
