West­bury wel­come Coney

WEST­BURY on Sev­ern Cricket Club will be cel­e­brat­ing their ex­ploits on the field this sea­son with a pre­sen­ta­tion din­ner and have se­cured a pres­ti­gious guest, TMS com­men­ta­tor and for­mer New Zealand cap­tain Jeremy Coney MBE.

Coney was an or­gan­ised and cor­rect bats­man, a steady medium-pacer and a fine fielder, who be­came an ex­cep­tion­ally as­tute cap­tain.

He fur­ther en­hanced his rep­u­ta­tion by lead­ing New Zealand to a first se­ries win in Eng­land, in 1986, en­dear­ing him­self by his sunny dis­po­si­tion.

He was awarded an MBE in 1986, and has since be­come a suc­cess­ful and re­spected TV and ra­dio com­men­ta­tor.

It will be very in­ter­est­ing to hear his per­spec­tive on New Zealand’s loss in this year’s World Cup.

Tick­ets for the event are priced at £35 for adults and £20 for guests 17 or un­der and in full time ed­u­ca­tion.

The evening takes place at West­bury Par­ish Hall on Fri­day Oc­to­ber 4, with a three course meal be­ing served from 7.15pm.
