Referees conquer the Forest 10k
TWO referees ran the Forest of Dean 10k as part of their training for the Rugby World Cup.
Wayne Barnes, who hails from Bream, was joined by New Zealand’s Ben O’keeffe in taking on the undulating course before heading out to Japan.
The race starts at Mallard’s Pike Lake with the course taking runners through the Forest on a mixture of hard stone paths, forest tracks and singletrack sections.
England’s top referee Barnes will take part in his fourth consecutive – and almost certainly last – World Cup over the next two months with the tournament getting underway on September 20.
O’keeffe will be making his World Cup debut and he ran the 10k less than 48 hours after officiating England’s warm-up game against Italy at St James’ Park.
