Ref­er­ees con­quer the For­est 10k

TWO ref­er­ees ran the For­est of Dean 10k as part of their train­ing for the Rugby World Cup.

Wayne Barnes, who hails from Bream, was joined by New Zealand’s Ben O’ke­effe in tak­ing on the un­du­lat­ing course be­fore head­ing out to Ja­pan.

The race starts at Mal­lard’s Pike Lake with the course tak­ing run­ners through the For­est on a mix­ture of hard stone paths, for­est tracks and sin­gle­track sec­tions.

Eng­land’s top ref­eree Barnes will take part in his fourth con­sec­u­tive – and al­most cer­tainly last – World Cup over the next two months with the tour­na­ment get­ting un­der­way on Septem­ber 20.

O’ke­effe will be mak­ing his World Cup de­but and he ran the 10k less than 48 hours af­ter of­fi­ci­at­ing Eng­land’s warm-up game against Italy at St James’ Park.
