LUKE Thomas made his first appearance for England Under-20s in their goalless draw with the Netherlands on Thursday night.

The former Cheltenham Town youngster, who joined Barnsley from Derby County this summer, went on from the bench with 20 minutes left at Shrewsbury Town’s Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Thomas’ move to Oakwell netted the Robins a six-figure sum, but his international debut will not result in any further payment for his old club.

Cheltenham do stand to receive cash if he makes it into the Under-21 side.

Thomas made one senior appearance in the FA Trophy for the Robins in January 2016 before leaving to join Derby.

He has since played on loan for Gloucester City and Coventry City, but is now a Championship regular for the Tykes.

Thomas then started in the 1-0 win over Switzerland on Monday.
