Gloucestershire Echo - - CHELTENHAM TOWN -

NICKY Debonis’ spell in charge of Bishop’s Cleeve Development kicked off with a 1-1 draw against Pittville United at Kayte Lane.

The 20-year-old is the first female manager in the 119-year history of the Cheltenham Football League.

Her team fell behind in the first half from a corner, but they responded positively.

After hitting the bar and having more than one effort cleared off the line, they were awarded a penalty in the second half.

Fynn Carter was tripped in the box and the 16-year-old stepped up, dusted himself down and converted confidently from the spot to ensure the Mitres started their Division Four campaign with a share of the spoils.

“We worked hard throughout and looked like a strong team both on and off the ball,” Debonis said.

“We conceded an unlucky goal, but this gave the team the motivation to keep pushing.

“We created a number of very close goal scoring opportunities and Fynn’s penalty was well taken.

“It was a very good first match from the team with good potential going into our next match.

“We still have a lot to work on throughout the season, but I am very proud of the team after their first competitive game.”

Cleeve Development’s next game is away to Andoversford III on Saturday (2.30pm).
