A ROUND-UP OF THE LATEST NEWS IN THE DIGITAL WORLD
FACEBOOK’S NEW PORTALS
DESPITE the skepticism that greeted Facebook’s launch of Portal – its home communications hub that brings video calling to your home – it is back for more this year with new models. And this time they’re aiming for your TV.
The Portal line-up now features four models, three with screens that vary in size from 15.6in, to 10in, down to 8in.
A fourth, camera-only model sits by your TV and shows you the action on your big screen.
Portal brings video calling via your Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp account and everybody seems to have at least one of those.
You can also use the kind of AR face filters you find on almost all video calling apps now.
Alexa is built in for smart home control and you can also link up your Spotify account.
Price-wise you are looking at shelling out around £269 for the big Portal, £169 for the 10in, £129 for the Mini 8in, and £149 for the TV version.
I don’t know why anyone would want a camera connected to Facebook in their home, but there must be someone out there willing to take the risk…
