Ince comes through test

Gloucestershire Echo - - SPORTING INDEX -

CHELTENHAM Town pair Rohan Ince and Will Boyle came through their returns from injury unscathed in a 2-1 training ground friendly win over Oxford United Under-23s on Tuesday.

Defender Boyle had been out since the opening day of the season with a calf problem, but has been an unused substitute for the last two games.

Midfielder Ince, pictured, has made one appearance for the Robins, but he was sent off after 72 minutes after throwing a water bottle that hit the fourth official.

After serving a five-match ban he was due to start at Crawley on August 31, but suffered a hamstring injury during the warm-up, ruling him out of the last five games.

Boyle played for around

50 minutes against Oxford, while Ince was withdrawn after an hour. Boss Michael Duff had a look at a trialist, who played for 85 minutes at left wing-back. Striker Jonte Smith was not involved in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Crewe and he also sat out Tuesday’s fixture due to a hip problem. The Bermuda international is due to return to training on Thursday, which would put him back in contention for Saturday’s trip to Oldham. That leaves front man Reuben Reid (knee), loan midfielder from Hull City Max Sheaf (hamstring) and left wing-back Josh Debayo (groin) as the players still working their way back from injuries. Cheltenham won the match against Oxford 2-1, with goals from Alex Addai and George Lloyd after they had fallen behind.
