» There will be a Farmers’ Market selling a wide variety of locally grown and produced goods held in the Promenade tomorrow from 9am to 2pm.

» As part of Cobalt’s charitable partnershi­p with local auctioneer­s Chorley’s they are running an amazing auction of promises from 11am tomorrow at Prinknash Abbey.

There will be some very special prizes including a ski lesson with Eddie the Eagle, a Boeing 737 flight simulation, a years’ worth of free hairdressi­ng at Stuart Holmes salon, a day in the studio for two people with a renowned local artist, signed Joanna Trollope books, a commission­ed pet portrait and lots, lots more.

» Sandford Parks Lido hold their yearly Dog Swim this weekend with sessions from 10am-2pm.

A £10 ticket includes one dog and two accompanyi­ng humans.

Additional spectator tickets are £3. This event is at the end of all human swimming sessions before the pool is cleaned.

» Christ Church choir conducted by Timothy Ingold and accompanie­d by organist Dr David Ponsford are giving a Coffee Concert at 10.30am on Saturday October 19 at Christ Church, Malvern Road.

The choir is singing choral works by composers including Faure, Duruffle, Sumsion and many others in Christ Church, Malvern Road. Coffee and cakes will be served.

Friday, October 25: The World’s Greatest Musicals. The Westenders are proud to present their popular show ‘The World’s Greatest Musicals’ and are delighted to be returning to The Bacon Theatre for a night in the West End. The Company are all past members from the London production of Les Miserables and between them have over 25 top West End Shows to their credits.

Centre are exceptiona­lly busy, and there is hardly a weekend when something is not on. Long may it last.

» Leckhampto­n Surgery were in the Century last Thursday and Saturday and ended their Flu Jab sessions for this year.

» Eight of our nine Scouts spent last weekend on camp at Cranham Scout Centre.

They were lucky with good weather and had a lovely experience. Many thanks to Louise, John, Steve and Andrew for being with them.

» The monthly drop-in coffee morning for local seniors took place on Tuesday October 1.

Some dozen locals turned up and a representa­tive of the Council who talked about various aspect of our group.

This is in the Sobey Suite from 10amnoon and is a free event thanks to Clare Stewart.

Good chanve to sit and talk and exchange news.

The next one is due on Tuesday, November 5. Hope to see many of you there.

WINCHCOMBE

Winchcombe Town Council met on Wednesday, October 2. The meeting started with an interestin­g, thought provoking presentati­on on the Automatic Number Plate Recognitio­n system by Charles Pedrick from Rodborough Parish Council. Although very costly this scheme has worked in reducing the speed of motorists in a few areas. Other items that were discussed were: Reports from Borough Councillor­s.

Considerat­ion of a response to the One Gloucester­shire Fit for the Future – developing urgent and hospital care in Gloucester­shire document. The Council decided not to respond as a body but individual­s should be encouraged to respond to the consultati­on at www. oneglouces­tershire.net by Monday, 14 October.

The regular update on the progress of the Winchcombe Park was given and discussed. A meeting of the Working Party will be convened shortly.

The Friends of St Peter’s, Winchcombe, will hold their autumn lecture on Friday, October 11 – 7pm for 7.30pm at Abbey Fields Community Centre.

Adrian Barlow, who is an expert on stained glass windows, will talk about Thomas Denny, a contempora­ry British painter and stained-glass artist.

He is one of the few people left in Britain who still makes stained glass for churches.

Tickets are available from St Peter’s Centre and the Coventry Building Society costing £8 for members of the Friends and £10 for non-members.

This is an opportunit­y for any member of the Community to come along and see what the U3A is all about.
