Sec­ond-half slump as ladies fall to loss

GLOUCES­TER-HARTPURY tasted de­feat for the first time in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, los­ing 39-12 to Har­lequins.

Har­lequins opened the scor­ing with a con­verted try from Leanne Ri­ley but Glouces­ter­hart­pury hit back through Eng­land sec­ond-row Zoe Ald­croft who crashed over un­der the posts and Natasha Hunt con­verted to make it 7-7.

Har­lequins got their sec­ond try when Gi­ada Franco bun­dled over af­ter a driv­ing maul to lead 12-7 at half time.

How­ever, the sec­ond half saw Har­lequins take con­trol and they scored three more tries and two penal­ties to ease clear.

Ellie Green kicked a penalty, fol­lowed by a con­verted Shau­nagh Brown try. but Glouces­ter­hart­pury re­sponded five min­utes later, full-back Emma Sing dot­ting down in the cor­ner.

Brown bun­dled over for her sec­ond try of the night, earn­ing her team the try bonus point.

An­other penalty from Green ex­tended their lead to 32-12 and in the fi­nal min­utes, Har­lequins se­cured their fifth try, Sarah Beck­ett claim­ing the score.

Head coach Susie Ap­pleby told the Glouces­ter web­site: “The first half was good, with both teams do­ing well and we were in it at 12-5.

“In the sec­ond half we went away from look­ing af­ter the ball and that’s when we suf­fered against Har­lequins who are a re­ally good side.”
