Second-half slump as ladies fall to loss
GLOUCESTER-HARTPURY tasted defeat for the first time in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, losing 39-12 to Harlequins.
Harlequins opened the scoring with a converted try from Leanne Riley but Gloucesterhartpury hit back through England second-row Zoe Aldcroft who crashed over under the posts and Natasha Hunt converted to make it 7-7.
Harlequins got their second try when Giada Franco bundled over after a driving maul to lead 12-7 at half time.
However, the second half saw Harlequins take control and they scored three more tries and two penalties to ease clear.
Ellie Green kicked a penalty, followed by a converted Shaunagh Brown try. but Gloucesterhartpury responded five minutes later, full-back Emma Sing dotting down in the corner.
Brown bundled over for her second try of the night, earning her team the try bonus point.
Another penalty from Green extended their lead to 32-12 and in the final minutes, Harlequins secured their fifth try, Sarah Beckett claiming the score.
Head coach Susie Appleby told the Gloucester website: “The first half was good, with both teams doing well and we were in it at 12-5.
“In the second half we went away from looking after the ball and that’s when we suffered against Harlequins who are a really good side.”
