De­bayo side­lined af­ter un­der­go­ing surgery

» CHEL­TENHAM Town de­fender Josh De­bayo is fac­ing an ex­tended spell on the side­lines af­ter un­der­go­ing surgery.

The for­mer Chelsea, Southamp­ton and Le­ices­ter City young­ster has been side­lined with a groin in­jury since start­ing the Leas­ing.com Tro­phy group match at Ex­eter City on Septem­ber 3.

Af­ter ini­tial treat­ment from the club’s med­i­cal staff it was de­cided that a mi­nor pro­ce­dure was needed and the 22-year-old, inset, went un­der the knife in Le­ices­ter on Tues­day.

De­bayo has made three League Two starts and two sub­sti­tute ap­pear­ances for the Robins this term, along with one start each in the Carabao Cup and Leas­ing.com Tro­phy.

He joined the club on a two year deal in the sum­mer of 2018, mak­ing six starts and one ap­pear­ance from the bench be­fore be­ing loaned to Dover Ath­letic in Oc­to­ber and spend­ing the the rest of the cam­paign with the Na­tional League club.

Af­ter re­turn­ing to his par­ent club for pre-sea­son and start­ing the cam­paign in the ab­sence of first choice left wing­back Chris Hussey, De­bayo signed clear signs of im­prove­ment.
