Tim Taylor’s verdict on the defeat by Harlequins

-

» That game saw some good bits and bad bits ....

Frustrating first half with far too many errors and we were a little bit indisciplined at times. Quins capitalised on our errors and scored three tries so if we can get that out of our game that will be good. We have lots of positives to take away but some negatives and some learnings we can take away as well.

» What was said at half-time because Gloucester turned that game back around in that second half?

We just asked the boys to hold onto the ball a bit more and be more patient with it and be smarter with the ball and not to force it too often and when we got into our stride and our framework we started to cause some problems. We didn’t concede a point in the second half until the last 30 seconds so lots of positives.

» Very similar in ways to last week, Gloucester put some patterns in place in the second half that I am sure we will be seeing in the Premiership?

Definitely, we are going to keep building and keep improving. It was great to see some guys get their first games out there for the season, getting that rustiness out and get a game under the belt and also positive that there were no injuries as well.

» Last year we saw this competition build a base for front row players, this season they are getting a second go at it. The back row in particular now getting the chance...

That is where we are great, we had 21 out of the 23 through the academy so it is great for the club and we need to keep building on that because it is great for the club and gives them the opportunities.

Some of the established players came out today and started to put some structure into what we are going to see for the season ahead.

For a lot of those guys, it was the first game of the season and we have a lot to build on and it is important that we push on for next week.

» Are things on schedule timings wise for the Premiership season?

We are in a good spot, where we can keep improving and look at the learnings from this game and push on with it for next week and turn them into a positive.

» How did you see that fracas in the second half as there was a momentum shift after that?

It’s hard for me to say because I haven’t seen it back on the video yet. It is important that we stay disciplined in situations like that but things do happen and it is what we will work on.

» Was discipline a factor today?

Some things went against us and it is important that we have that ‘next job’ mentality and we just get on with it whatever comes from the ref, so it is something that we can work on.

» First run out for Danny Cipriani, were you pleased with how he went?

It was great to see him, (Mark) Atkinson and (Franco) Marais, Ed Slater all back today. A lot of boys getting first games under their belt which is good.
