We are fortunate to have such a great band of volunteers
»
THIS week (June 1–7) is Volunteers’ Week when we celebrate, and thank, all those people who generously give up their time to volunteer to help charities and organisations to deliver sustainable services with their valuable support.
Here at The Cheltenham Trust we are fortunate to have a wonderful team of enthusiastic, talented and active volunteers who donate their time and energy to help across our venues and support our activities and events.
Last year those volunteers collectively donated more than 15,000 hours of their time to the trust.
Our volunteers are a part of The Cheltenham Trust family and support us in a myriad of ways across our iconic venues, Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham Town Hall, The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, Leisure at Cheltenham and the Prince of Wales stadium.
Volunteering is a way to give back to the local community and enables you to use the skills that you have.
It is social and provides a network of friends and colleagues and it’s a great opportunity to interact with people.
All our volunteers are part of a charity that delivers a wide range of services to help to improve the health and wellbeing of the residents of Cheltenham.
From leading 650 health walks a year, helping at swimming and trampoline lessons, supporting people to get back into the gym at Leisure at, to welcoming visitors and giving guided tours at Pittville Pump Room and The Wilson, our volunteers make a real difference.
They also contribute behind the scenes, last year, our collections volunteers dedicated more than 1,000 hours scanning, documenting, conserving, transcribing and responding to research enquiries, ensuring the town’s collections are preserved for future generations.
Many of our volunteers are in the mature and vulnerable category, and consequently have been shielding during the current crisis and staying safe at home.
We’re looking forward to being able to welcome them back when we are able to re-open our venues in line with Government guidance.
If you’d like to get involved as a volunteer and currently have some free time, perhaps you’re on furlough, we have opportunities as we work towards our phased re-opening from July 4.
Maybe you would like to help us as we set our outdoor cafes up at the portico at Pittville Pump Room and the Garden Bar in Imperial Gardens?
Or you might like to support our leisure team as they get ready to roll out exercise classes, yoga and gym sessions where it is safe to do so.
Or, if you haven’t already got involved, maybe you could make bunting ready to help us decorate our venues and spaces as they reopen.
Whatever you decide we welcome your time and your skills and you.
If you’d like to find out more about volunteering with us, even if just for a few hours, we’d love to hear from you.
Please email us at communications@cheltenhamtrust. org.uk and include your name and contact details and we will be in touch.
