CAR cruisers have thanked their supporters after nearly 100 vehicles took part in an event in Cheltenham in support of the NHS.

Motoring enthusiasts turned up in larger numbers than expected for the cruise around the town and surrounding area.

Members of the Cars of the Cotswolds group raised hundreds of pounds for the NHS Charities Together fund.

Group spokesman Sean Walker said the event was about showing people’s support for those within the NHS, as well as other volunteers, who have been caring for people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The cruisers met at Cheltenham Racecourse last Thursday night. A mixture of sports cars, classic cars and supercars headed to Prestbury, Bishop’s Cleeve and Pittville before following Cheltenham’s one-way system through to Montpellier Gardens, past the hospital and making their way back through Pittville to the racecourse.

Sean said: “What a turnout. It was a brilliant evening from start to finish for all those who joined in and watched.

“The expected 40 cars turned into almost 100, which was amazing to see.

“It was a real mix of Mclarens, Ferraris, Porsches, TVRS and other performance cars, an incredible array and real eye candy for the car enthusiasts attending.

“I briefed the drivers, alongside the police, around social distancing and driving etiquette before we set off. I covered donations, discussed the NHS and thanked them for their hard work before we set off on the cruise around Cheltenham.

“The support from all involved has been more than perfect – thanks to Stagecoach, Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire police and the borough council for allowing this to take place.

“Thank you all for joining us and helping raise more than £550 for the NHS.

“We’d love to do it again, perhaps to mark the end of lockdown if they’ll have us back.”
