Milestones celebrated as company marks 40 years of expert work

-

PRECISION Engineering Pieces of Tewkesbury is marking 40 years of business.

Founded in 1980, PEP over the years has become one of the UK’S leading sheet metal fabrication sub-contractors, offering a wide range of in-house quality-controlled manufacturing processes.

Conversation Pieces Limited was a Cheltenham based company that manufactured reproduction telephones. They used a machine shop to produce and modify components for the manufacture of period candlestick telephones.

The machine shop in Cheltenham, was acquired by John Hawkins and Paul Rodriguez and, with the help of Malcolm Percevil, the owner of Conversation Pieces, Precision Engineering Pieces was set up on March 1 1980.

The company expanded rapidly and moved to new premises in Tewkesbury in late 1988.

PEP was adaptable from the outset and its production skills were redeployed to become a service centre for Mclaren Buggies to help weather a recession in 1982.

In 1985 PEP went into the business of manufacturing for bespoke desking systems, working with a company called Ashby & Horner Joinery (which became Roberts Weaver and then Humber & Ahrend). A close contact

and friend in Ahrend, Lee Markwick, set-up a new company called Technology Desking Limited based in London.

The relationship with Ahrend blossomed and provided the base from which PEP was able to expand, producing a significant volume of bespoke desks over the next two decades for end customers such as HSBC and Barclays. The Canary Wharf Trading floor featured 2,048 desks which were manufactured at P.E.P’S premises in Tewkesbury.

Over the last decade, P.E.P has grown year on year, with an annual turnover of £2.9m and 37 dedicated and long-serving members of staff, who, between them, have a wealth of knowledge and experience in many disciplines and industries.

PEP has become a well respected high quality sheet metal design fabrication service, that enables customers to bring to life fantastic ideas or products in which they specialise. It can assist in the design of new and exciting products to complement existing product development initiatives.

Chris Grant, operations director of Precision Engineering Pieces comments: “We pride ourselves on being the company that says yes to our customers with our doors always open to provide expert solutions with time served experience, skills and a smile.”
