Chance to book for the first events in Autumn programme

THIS week has been significant for entertainment venues and organisations with the announcement of the first phase of awards from the government’s Culture Recovery Fund, that will provide a much needed lifeline to help the industry recover after being closed for months.

Going to the theatre or concert hall and seeing a live performance has been another part of our lives that has been suspended during the pandemic and it is recognised that access to culture and arts goes a long way towards enhancing our wellbeing.

While theatres and venues are beginning to re-open, the audience capacities are vastly reduced to meet the social distancing measures required.

This is impacting on the financial viability of what can be staged.

At The Cheltenham Trust we’ve continued to adapt and innovate and to identify every opportunity to bring entertainment to the town within the confines of the covid19 restrictions.

The Town Hall may not be able to welcome its usual 1,000 strong audiences but a Covid compliant and socially distanced set up is in place and was tested throughout the recent Literature Festival and will continue to be in place for the programme throughout this autumn and winter.

The programme launches with the first of our over 18s comedy clubs on Friday October 30 with a bumper night of some of the best comedians from the UK’S comedy circuit.

Featuring Russell Hicks, Michael Odewale and headlined by Mitch Benn, the club night will be compered by Cerys Nelmes.

A Halloween special takes place on Saturday October 31 with celebrated drag cabaret, Witch! Please. This over 18s show features local drag acts, come and see what tricks and treats we have in store.

We recognise that in these continuing challenging times we all need some light relief that we can access and enjoy safely.

We will continue to schedule acts and events and we hope that while we live through difficult times this will offer a lifeline to the local community.
