O’sullivan cuts gap in title race with Croft win

-

WITHINGTON’S British F4 driver Zak O’sullivan took his sixth victory of the season at Croft as he moved within 13 points of the Championship lead,

The 15-year-old took the victory in race one by four tenths on Saturday and secured second place in race two on Sunday, finishing ahead of championship rival Luke Browning on both occasions.

Starting third on the grid in both races, O’sullivan got a great start from the second row in race one to dispatch of Browning before assuming the race lead from fellow championship rival and pole sitter Casper Stevenson by the end of the second lap.

From there on, O’sullivan controlled the race, bar some last-minute pressure from Stevenson to claim his sixth victory of the season, with points lead Browning down in sixth position by the chequered flag.

The second race of the weekend was taken by Stevenson with O’sullivan claiming second place, despite receiving some contact early on and having to fight his way past Browning with a fantastic cutback after his rival had gone wide.

O’sullivan’s victory and second place in the two races means the gap to him and Browning reduces to 13 points, having been 62 points behind the 18-year-old only three races before, with Stevenson a further 20 points behind with only six races of the season remaining.

“It went better than expected.” O’sullivan said. “Coming into the weekend we didn’t really know what to expect, we hadn’t really got to test there in the winter, and we had some weather issues. We were kind of coming in on the back foot.

“Going into race one I think I had some ground to make up and happened to make it up which was really cool.

“The weather helped us out a bit and the car felt really good at the start, and we felt it was good to get track position early on due to the nature of the circuit and how narrow it is and it paid off.”

There are two rounds left of the season, at Snetterton and Brands Hatch.
