Windsor and Soule leave Baggies in loan deals

-

FORMER Hartpury College and Cirencester Town forward Owen Windsor was on target for Grimsby Town in Tuesday’s 3-1 win at Cheltenham.

Windsor had made his Mariners debut in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Bolton after joining the League Two side on loan from Premier League side West Brom until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old joined the Baggies from Cirencester Town in 2019 and was loaned back to the club last season.

He impressed with the Under 18s before his move into the Baggies’ Premier League 2 squad this season, and has scored five goals in as many appearances.

Windsor said: “I’m really looking forward to getting going and helping this club reach their goals.

“I’m excited to be around senior football again and hopefully I can show my ability at this level.

“I have began the season well with the U23’s at West Brom with my goals and performances, which is great for my confidence, however, I’m playing here now so that all doesn’t matter if I can’t carry it on with this team.

“Hopefully, I can kick on with Grimsby whilst I’m here.

Grimsby boss Ian Holloway described Windsor as “a bull of a number nine”, and added: “I have no doubt he will be able to bring his form from West Brom here.

“He has been training and playing all the way through this and I might have to force him into the team almost immediately because of that scenario.

“I needed lots of players here with different skill sets and in Owen, I am absolutely delighted to have him.”

Another West Brom youngster, Cheltenham-born former Bournside School pupil Jamie Soule, scored on his debut for Lincoln City last Tuesday in the EFL Trophy win over Mansfield Town.

The 19-year-old spent time with National League champions Barrow last season and signed a new three-year deal at The Hawthorns last October, having impressed for their Under-23s in Premier League Two and he has made three appearances for his parent club in the EFL Trophy.

Soule has been with the Baggies since the age of eight, having started out in youth football at St Mark’s from Under-fives to Undersevens.

He has also represented England at youth level.

Soule has signed as a replacement for fellow West Brom striker Callum Morton, who is out for at least two months with a shoulder injury.

Imps boss Michael Appleton said: “Jamie is decent solution for us. He’s someone I worked with in my short spell with the under-23s [at West Brom] before coming to Lincoln.

“He’s not the biggest. He’s got a slight frame, but he’s quite aggressive.

“He doesn’t let his physical stature get in his way. He works very hard and his biggest attribute is probably his finishing.”

Cheltenham youngster Tom Sharpe is also on the Baggies’ books, and was an unused substitute for their Under-23 side in the 3-0 EFL Trophy defeat at Forest Green last Tuesday.
