Robins handed home tie with non-league side in the first round

CHELTENHAM Town have been drawn at home to South Shields in the first round of the FA Cup.

South Shields are in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, which is three levels below the Robins.

The non-league side have reached the first round proper of the competitio­n for the first time since 1973, upsetting National League Halifax Town in the fourth qualifying round.

Ties will take place over the weekend of November 7, behind closed doors.

They will not have replays, but they will have extra-time and then penalties if needed.

Winners progress to round two with £22,629 in prize money.

It was announced on Monday night that 16 of the ties will be shown on either the BBC or BT Sport, while the other 24 ties will be streamed by the home clubs.

Forest Green Rovers have been drawn away to League One leaders Lincoln City.
