Plans for 350 homes near new school First images of how development could look

-

THESE are the new images showing what 350 homes in a beauty spot will look like. Miller Homes has submitted the new planning application to Cheltenham Borough Council on land south of the A46 Shurdington Road in Leckhampton.

The new estate will feature open space, cycleways, footpaths, landscaping, access roads and ‘other associated infrastructure’ according to a raft of documents put forward as part of the bid.

The new homes will be on farming land on the Leckhampton Fields.

Plans show a new road will be created with access for pedestrians too.

Out of the 350 proposed houses, over a third are marked up for affordable housing for tenancy and rent properties, 36 houses for affordable home to buy and the rest on the public market.

The site is on the south-western edge of Cheltenham about a mile and a half from the town centre.

The area proposed for residential development lies south of Shurdington Road and falls into two parcels of land, east and west of the Hatherley Brook.

To the east, the site is contained by the Moorend Stream and overlooked by residential property on Merlin Way.

Kidnappers Lane runs along the western and south-western boundary of the site with residential properties adjacent at its northern end.

The north-eastern boundary is formed by fields in pasture and smallholdings.

The desired site is close to the University of Gloucestershire Park Campus, Belmont School, Cheltenham Bournside School, Warden Hill Primary School, and Broadlands Pre-School Centre.

You may recognise the area due to the building of a £30million secondary school, where the first sods on green fields where The High School Leckhampton will be built were cut on September 22. It is not believed the proposed housing development is related to the new secondary school.

The new homes will be a mix of between one and three storeys with single storey garages.

Due to the building of The High School Leckhampton, many details have been included surrounding the access to the development.

The plans say@: “How the development sustainably links to its context has been a key consideration through the design process, particularly in regard to the emerging secondary school to the south.

Desire lines to and from the school to the site and the surrounding context have been dictated within the masterplan to enable safe routes for children and parents that are overlooked by development and enable walking and cycling opportunities.”

There would be crossing points along Shurdington Road for children getting to school safely.

The developers say that they would also maintain the meadow and have allotments available for residents.

Warden Hill Parish Council have until Friday November 27, to respond to the proposals.
