Club still in the market for new signings

-

GLOUCESTER Rugby are still looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season head coach George Skivington has confirmed.

The Cherry and Whites have signed free agent Jamie Gibson after his time at Northampton Saints came to an end and completed loan deals for Cornish Pirates duo Jack Tyack and Kyle Moyle until January.

The club also confirmed new deals for Chris Harris, Matt Garvey, Jack Clement, Stephen Varney, Lloyd Evans, Tom Seabrook, Todd Gleave, Ciaran

Knight and Alex Seville.

But Gloucester are not done yet with The Rugby Paper reporting they are in search of a back-up fly-half option behind Danny Cipriani and Evans.

Skivington said: “There will probably be one or two [more signings]. We are talking to certain people and we are planning ahead, myself and Alex Brown. We are working very hard on that sort of thing. As you have seen we have extended a lot of players’ deals anyway.

“There could be one or two but we are being careful who we bring into the environment because it is absolutely key that we have good people who are here for the right reasons.

“So far we have been fortunate that they are good guys, and we have done our homework on them, don’t get me wrong.

“It is an interesting time in the rugby market at the moment to see who is available and how much they cost.”

Skivington continued: “We got an opportunity at the end of last year as coaches and players to understand each other, and we have got a very good understanding now between everyone at the club as to what our foundations are and where we want to go. We have made good strides towards that and what we want to stand for as a group.”

With money tight and Gloucester looking to emphasis on developing players through the academy, and getting ‘more Gloucester boys playing for Gloucester Rugby’ as CEO Lance Bradley put it this week, it seems unlikely the club will spend big but new arrivals are on the cards.
