Amazing individuals who are leading the way championed at digital ceremony
AMAZING apprentices were championed at the digital Gloucestershire Live Apprenticeship Awards ceremony, with 12 prizes given to some of the region’s most outstanding individuals.
The event was hosted by Steve Knibbs, from BBC Points West, and readers joined him, the apprentices and their friends and relations, celebrating each category winner from the comfort of their own homes.
Despite us not being able to get together for a glitzy in-person ceremony, the community was able to join together online to acknowledge the best and brightest learners in our region.
The headline sponsor was South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.
Ahead of the awards, Emma Slee, regional editor of Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset, said: “These awards are really important to us. Through our newspapers and websites we have campaigned to encourage people to take up apprenticeships to help them climb the career ladder.
“What better way to provide our businesses with the home-grown talent they so badly need?
“They celebrate the achievements of apprentices across such a wide range of businesses, trades and professions. They highlight the depth of talent and skill in Gloucestershire.
“Many companies realise that the best way to meet their skills needs is through the apprenticeship route. These awards are our way of celebrating the brilliant people who succeed through this initiative and who have gone that extra mile to set an example to others – as well as recognising the companies that employ and support them.”
At the digital ceremony, we named the Outstanding Apprentice of the Year in a variety of sectors, including construction, hair and beauty therapy and health, wellbeing, care and education.
Among them were Robert Mustoe, who was named Outstanding Apprentice of the Year in Construction, thanks to his excellent work with EG Carter & Co Ltd; and Ellie Martin, of Pittville School, who was recognised in the Health, Wellbeing, Care and Education category.
Now in their ninth year, the awards gave us the opportunity to celebrate those who help apprentices to succeed. The Employer of the Year category was hotly contested by Iress FS Limited and Stroud District Council, with the council coming out on top.
The biggest award of the night was the overall Gloucestershire Live Apprentice of the Year, with our judges choosing the winner out of all nominees in the other categories.
This year, it was given to Daniel Green, of ASGUK (Systems) Ltd, who was the winner in the Business, Administrative and Financial Services category.
