CHELTENHAM ACTIVISTS’ NETWORK Reducing plastic waste to promote a more sustainable world
GLOBAL Footsteps is a local charity, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and continuing to promote a broad vision of a world where people and the planet are cared for.
We endeavor to help raise awareness of sustainable ways of living at community level, whether locally in Cheltenham or through our partners overseas (currently Kisumu, Kenya)
There has always been a shop in our premises in Portland St, providing a different, community-based, ethical experience to normal high street shopping and since December 2018 this has been transformed into Foodloose.
With awareness of plastic pollution growing in recent years, and the difficulties of buying anything that isn’t wrapped in plastic, it was an easy decision therefore to refocus on reducing plastic waste, a problem that is provoking serious concern across the globe.
To complement this, we have also pioneered the sale of affordable organic foods, and household and personal care products that are dispensed by our volunteers into customer’s own containers without adding more plastic to our already overloaded environment.
Like every other business we have needed to adapt to the Covid19 lockdown restrictions and have done this by starting a click and collect service.
Customers can go to the Foodloose website www.foodloose.co.uk and easily place an order, indicating when you are able to collect.
There is also a bicycle delivery service for anyone who is shielding and unable to visit in person.
Run by a team of passionate volunteers and with the day to day oversight of our wonderful manager Bethan, the shop also provides opportunities for volunteering, from refilling jars, serving our customers, or helping with marketing projects. Just get in touch.
