Park danger Warning as knives found inside dumped bread rolls

BREAD rolls covered in sauce have been found with large sharp knives stuck in them at a Cheltenham beauty spot.

A woman made the shocking discovery in Pittville Park and suspects it could be a sinister attempt to injure dogs as they sniff out the food.

Dog walker Jasmine Amber posted a video on her Instagram account of three bread rolls, which looked to have been covered in ketchup. Each of them had a knife stabbed through the centre.

The incident has been reported to Gloucestershire Police and Cheltenham Borough Council, both of which are stepping up patrols in the area.

The Instagram post on the @missjasmineamber account, which has been viewed almost 9,000 times, read: “In Pittville Park today by a tree I found these. My dogs are gannets and were SO CLOSE to grabbing one!!”

She urged people to be careful when letting their dogs loose because of people who would “happily endanger the life of an animal or person, easily a child”.

The council and police have urged people to report any similar discoveries. Adam Reynolds, green space manager at the council, said: “We are working with the police and partners to increase vigilance in the area.

“It’s important to ensure that Cheltenham continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit.”

A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of the social media post showing knives that were found at Pittville Park, and officers have been conducting additional patrols in the area. We would encourage anybody finding knives which have been discarded in this manner to report it to police through the website or on 101.”

People can dispose of knives, no questions asked, at several knife amnesty bins.

These are at Bearlands, Gloucester; Cheltenham; Cirencester; Coleford; Stow and Stroud police stations.

The force spokesperson added: “Members of the public are advised to use a few sheets of newspaper or cardboard to wrap a knife, ensuring that there is enough material to prevent it piercing through.

“It should also be sealed with sticky tape to stop the knife being easily removed or falling out of the wrapping.”
