Appeal for witnesses to ‘stab’ attack

Nine released on bail as investigat­ions continue

EIGHT men and one boy have been bailed from police custody after their arrest in connection to a potential stabbing in Cheltenham.

They were arrested late in the evening of Sunday, May 2 after a man was taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound to his back.

A Gloucester­shire Constabula­ry spokespers­on said: “Two 18-year-old men from Cheltenham were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, a 21-year-old man from Tyne and Wear was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and a 25-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.

“A 17-year-old boy from Cheltenham was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm, an 18-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, and a 23-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

“A 20-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a class B drug.

“A 22-year-old man from Evesham was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and affray.”

All eight men and the boy have now been bailed until May 25.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

In a statement, Gloucester­shire Police said: “Shortly before 11pm (2 May) a serious disorder took place in the lower High Street area of Cheltenham and police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

“Investigat­ing officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and informatio­n.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any informatio­n, is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 466 of 2 May.

“You can also provide informatio­n anonymousl­y by calling independen­t crime-fighting charity Crimestopp­ers on 0800 555 111.”
