» Following the disappointment of having to cancel last year’s annual Allotment competition due to COVID-19 restrictions the Allotments Committee is delighted to announce its intention to hold the competition this year. Shortlisting for the competition will be carried out during the week commencing June 21. The shortlisted plots will then be judged by an independent panel in the first week of July. If COVID19 restrictions at the time allow it is hoped to hold the awards ceremony in the Stanton Suite in September.

» The Regency Probus Club has kept in touch with all members during the past year, with a weekly newsletter and also providing an invitation to a virtual Zoom presentation each week.

They hope to restart meetings on Wednesday June 23 ( pandemic rules permitting) from 10am at Cheltenham Bowling Club. The first meeting will be the Annual General Meeting followed by a program of talks arranged to the end of October.

» The Georgian Spa Probus club for retired businessmen who met fortnightly on Tuesday mornings has now sadly been disbanded. The long period of Covid restrictions and reduction in numbers has made the decision inevitable. Charlton Kings Probus club for men will continue to meet on Thursdays when restrictions are lifted and will welcome new members.

» The Parish Council’s Community Development Committee loves the historical photographs that are now displayed in the windows of Smith and Mann in Lyefield Road West in Charlton Kings. What a great way to show people the history of their area!

BISHOP’S CLEEVE

» Bishop’s Cleeve Players are proud to present an online Zoom charity performance of Murder on the Overnight Express by Patricia Gay tomorrow, at 7.30pm.

The play is set in the 1960s. The overnight express from Sloth in Scotland to London has come to an emergency stop. The body of a government minister has been discovered in his First Class sleeping berth. Who killed him and why? You are invited to solve the mystery along with Inspector Pluckett as he interviews the passengers and railway staff.

Only one place required per Zoom account. A performance not to be missed! All proceeds, by donation, are to support GRASAC, the Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse charity. Please apply to bishopscleeveplayers@yahoo.co. uk to book your space on Zoom and for details on how to make a donation to GRASAC.

WOODMANCOTE

» Woodmancote Village Hall has been saved from closure. The chairman of the hall committee was delighted to announce that, due to a fantastic response to the public appeal for prospective committee members, the Woodmancote Village Hall executive committee has now been formed, with all four executive officer roles being filled. In due course the non-executive committee members will be co-opted and so the full committee will be formed. It will include deputy positions for each of the four executive officers and they will, if required, step into the executive roles, so succession is guaranteed.

So, our beloved village hall has been saved by you, the generous residents of this wonderful village. Thank you – Stephen Barnes, chairman at Woodmancote Village Hall Committee.
