Nathan’s 100-hole challenge to raise money for charities

-

» NATHAN Franklin-stokes undertook the phenomenal challenge of playing 100 holes of golf at Lilley Brook Golf Club in one day as part of the Captain Tom 100 Challenge.

Whilst to the non-golfer this may not seem like much of a challenge, that is five rounds of 18 holes of golf, plus a further 10 holes.

Each round is approximately six miles worth of walking, add to that having to swing a golf club and push your golf clubs round (around 15 kgs) and you have walked over 30 miles whilst swinging a club and pushing 15kgs.

Nathan hit his first tee shot at 5.40am and holed his final putt at 6.30pm, so achieved this feat in under 13 hours.

He was helped along the way by a number of volunteer members who went ahead of him to clear the way and offer encouragement and sustenance throughout the day, as well as a much needed massage of his calf muscles after the fifth round of the day.

Nathan admits he had never really thought about doing anything for charity before, but he was moved to do something when he heard about the Captain Tom 100 Challenge and the spirit of Captain Tom’s amazing effort during the first lockdown.

He decided to raise money for Sue Ryder’s Leckhampton Court and Snowland Journeys and at the time of writing he has raised over £1,300 to be shared between the two charities.
